It works on mains voltages (110V or 240V), in the 12V socket in your car, using a couple of AA batteries or a 9V battery. Just remember to take your USB cables along with you and this will top up any of your toys as there are two USB sockets. Mine does make a faint, high-pitched squeal when running on 110V, so it doesn't sit on my bedside table at night but, apart from that, it is excellent.
